I posted about this the other night... but then I think I accidentally deleted it.... (oops)

If you own an iPod beware.... In at least 2 cases loading the iPod software has had a severely negative effect with the OLF.

I got one for my birthday and when I installed the software on my work machine it no longer allows me to log into the OLF. Nothing seems to fix the problem. I have done enough testing to know that the problem is in my machine... not in the forum software.

Steve Roberson has now duplicated the problem...

So beware... there is no known fix for this short of reinstalling your OS.

I have the iPOD software loaded on my machine here and have no problems. Maybe it's a file you have on the iPOD itself. Seems like everything can get virus' nowadays. Human and non-human (debatable by some I'm sure).

I use the ipod software on two computers (home & work) with no problems - except when my ipod contents were accidentaly backed up to our work server. Had the IT guy running around trying to find where that 15GB went. Oops

Brock,

Just out of curiosity, have you tried different browsers?

Mario (and John) as I recall you guys are Mac users....

I am windows XP pro and using the nano machine. How about the rest of you.

Yes, I have tried different browsers... no dice... It is a very strange problem.

I'm using a 30G photo ipod, PC is a 3G P4 running XP Pro. Using Firefox on both machines.

Have you tried updating the ipod software from apple's website? They put out updates pretty regularly.

I have a 20 GB Ipod, XP Pro and I use IE typically. No problems. Maybe the version of iTunes you're using? Might try an upgrade from the Apple site...

Could be the upgrade. I have the iPOD 30g, windows xp home. There was an issue linking the ipod to the computer (itunes) and after the update, no problems. I use IE exclusivly, never had a problem with loading any site.

Ackk! No Mac here, thank you.

XP Pro.... brand new 60GB iPod...

Installed it a week ago, and nothing, I mean nothing, changed on my computer.

What is the problem you're seeing? Two cases does not a problem make. Sound smore like a fluke, and you're trying to blame it on something that isn't the cause.Mario38720.12

I have three 30gig iPods in the house and three new Nano units that the kids got for Christmas. Software is installed on two dual process or G5s, a G5 iMac, an older G3 iMac and two Windows XP run machines through out the house and office. No problems on any of the machines...yet, but i'll keep an eye open for any to pop up.

I actually went around to all of the computers in the house/shop/studio and logged on to be sure that they work alright when I first read this post.

pop-ups. The machine just works!
Mac G5 OS 10.3.9 No problems with the Nano I got for Christmas.
I'm worried about my hearing though! Good Luck Brock. You could
always come back from the dark side and get a Mac.
TJK
Funny you should say that. I used to belong to the church of the mac too... but every time I turned around it seemed that some program I needed would only run on a PC... so I finally gave in.

I am ok now on either platform...

I was nearly certain it was the iPod with my case, then when Steve had a problem that cinched it for me. This might have something to do with versions, OS patches, something... but it seems to interfere with some sites being able to write a cookie.

We had a weird problem on the OLF in the past and I finally figured out that you needed to upgrade your system to the latest and greatest system patches to fix it.

I think I am running the most current version of the iPod software and iTunes, but I will try upgrading both of those again to see if that works. Then I will look for any new OS system patches.

The problem I am seeing is you can't log in. It appears to work, but when you go into the discussions you really are not logged in.

I've had that same problem--logging in but then discovering that I'm really not logged in--intermittenly over the last week. However, I do not have an iPod/iTunes on my computer. I assumed it was some problem with the OLF site.

Brock I would check the security settings on my browser if I were you. I run ITunes all the time while browsing and have never had a problem logging in to the forum. It could be that when you installed ITunes, you had your browser open and it tweaked something. BTW I use XPpro SP2, and use FireFox for my browser. I even have the FoxyTunes extension that allows me to control ITunes from my browser window.

Wrong again. I'm still on servive pack one <bg> I ain't upgrading this machine, because it is, so far, flawless. Can't "fix" what ain't broke. I run Firefox all the time.

Methinks you have a problem deep in your system...

The other problem was not universal... only a few people had it. But I figured out that when you updated your patches it fixed it.

I have three time had trouble logging in to OLF. Each time, deleting my cache of cookies and trying again worked. My son has an iPod. No problems.
